Wampanoag Food
The woman gathered and harvested corn, squash, and beans in the fall. The men and older boys hunted for deer, wild turkey, and small game such as squirrels and rabbits. Sometimes the men fished for trout and other sea creatures. The weather was very unpredictable, so they had to time the harvest just right of else to crops might get snowed on, or their hunt could get snowed on. Or if they did plan but not carefully after a storm there could be broken or weak branches that could interfere with the hunt.
Eskimo food
Most Eskimo relied on sea mammals such as seals, whales, and walruses, fish and caribou for food. They also used (very rare but used) plants and their roots. The plants did not grow there obviously but they bartered or traded with other tribes to get them and other meats such as rabbits and squirrels. The weather was very cold and harsh so not a lot of animals or plants could survive there. The food was so rare that the Eskimo used every last bone and piece of fat! That’s how rare food was.
